The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University chapter has on Friday March 31 embarked a total and indefinite strike action.
VerseNews Nigeria reports that the state union branch kick off on the industrial strike after being granted permission by the ASUU national to press home its demands and the state government’s rebuttal of claims that it does not owe workers’ salaries.

This Online News Media reports that the government’s failure to pay earned academic allowances, promotion arrears, fractional payment of salaries to staff as well as unsettled staff pension and gratuity scheme has led to the call of the strike.

Confirming the development, Mr Samuel Shitaa, the Taraba State University ASUU Chairman, noted that other reasons for the industrial action includes non-implementation of agreements and perimeter fencing of the institution.
The state government when contacted through the Commissioner for Tertiary education Edward Baraya said the union has not communicated their action to the state government.
He condemned the action of the union adding that the state government is working to sort out pending issues before vacating office.
However, the special adviser to the governor on media and publicity Bala Dan-Abu in a press statement said the outgoing governor is owing no worker salaries.
