The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has condemned the disturbing incident where a police team ran a vehicle over a citizen on Thursday June 29, 2023 at Ekpoma, Edo State

VerseNews Nigeria reports that in a statement by the Ag. Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, said such act is a gross misconduct and won’t be tolerated.

The Police assured to take proper displinary action against the police team while urging the general public to stay calm as the handle the issue.

The statement which was signed by CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, mnipr, mipra, FPRO on 30th June, 2023 reads “The IGP has, therefore, directed the erring policemen, who have been in detention in Edo State, to report to the Force Headquarters Abuja on Monday for further action.”

“Members of the public, particularly the people of Ekpoma, are implored to remain calm as the present leadership of the NPF will not condone such an act of unprofessionalism and illegality.”

This Online News Media a team of policemen, using an official black Sienna bus provided by the Edo State Government, forcefully dragged the already handcuffed middle-aged man despite the alarm raised by members of the community who had gathered around the van.

A 27-minute video of the incident captured the moment the driver of the police van opened the van door and fled after dragging the immobilized suspect for several meters.

The video, which went viral on Friday morning, showed onlookers gathering around the handcuffed man lying on the ground in front of the police vehicle. The driver then proceeded to crush and drag the man for over 100 meters while ignoring the shouts from the crowd.
