The Nigeria’s Super Falcons on Monday got kicked out of the FIFA Women’s World Cup after losing 4-2 on penalties to the Lionesses of England.
Both teams were unable to find the back of the net after 90 minutes of action which headed to extra time but still no goals were scored despite the numerical advantage the Super Falcons had over their opponents, England after their striker, Lauren James was sent off in the 87th minute.
It was a moment of decision for a winner to emerge as both teams headed to penalty shootout.
The Super Falcons wasted their chances after missing their first two shootouts taken by Desire Oparanozie and Michelle Alozie.
Rashidat Ajibade and Christy Ucheibe’s conversion of their kicks did not make much impact after Rachel Daly converted her kick paving the way for Alex Greenwood and Chloe Kelly’s decider to give the Lionesses the victory which ended 4-2.
Meanwhile, Nigerians have taken to the social media, Twitter to express their reactions after the game.
While some showered praises on the girls for their outstanding performance beating the hosts, Australia 3-2 in the group stage and qualifying for the first time for the Round of 16 some criticised their performance for not taking their numerical advantage after an England was off despite having extra 30 minutes of play before the penalty shootout.

@Cjamesspeaks, “You gave your best. We are proud of you. Besides If you are thinking on relocating to canada for School or work, its not as tough as you may have thought. I advise you get a guide that teaches you how to apply without making errors

@Onupencil, “History has never favoured us playing against a 10 man/woman team. We’re yet to learn the tactics of playing a team with a red card. Infact, we don’t just learn. Ordega shouldn’t have come in & I would have played Onumonu till the end, her height would have been needed in launching long balls into the box18. Needless to say, those older players should retire to make room for a more competitive team.”
@EbennyZarSharp, “We can’t keep doing this everytime you lose. The Lionesses were one man down, you didn’t utilize that opportunity even into the extra time. Please Let’s do better next time. I Love You all regardless.”
@Jorshemahn69, “I wish they had taken advantage of their numerical advantage! England was there for the taking!”
@JoshOkechukwu, “Exactly my point. A tactical change and adoption would have buried #ENG immediately they got the red card. The ladies gave their all. I’m still proud of them though😍😍.”
