Nigeria is facing another power outage as the national grid, operated by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) from Osogbo, Osun State, has collapsed.
The grid’s electricity production plummeted to a mere 273 megawatts, coming from only two out of the more than 27 electricity generation sources.
VerseNews reports that this outage occurred shortly after TCN celebrated 400 days of questionable grid stability, highlighting the ongoing challenges in the power sector.
Distribution Companies confirmed that the grid failure happened at 00:41 AM, causing most of their feeders to go offline.
As of 4:00 AM, only five generating plants were supplying power to the grid, with minimal capacity: Afam VI (0.70MW), Dadinkowa (0.00MW), Ibom Power (32.90MW), Jebba (240MW), and Olorunsogo (zero generation).
Around 1 AM, the total power on the grid reached a mere 35MW, indicating a complete collapse of the power system.
It later recovered slightly to 273MW by the time of this report.
The TCN has not responded to inquiries about this grid failure, leaving many Nigerians in the dark once again.
