- The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) caused the explosion at Mushin’s Shoe Materials Market, leaving one person injured and assuring residents that the area is now safe.

The Lagos State Police Command has assured residents and traders that the Shoe Materials Market in Mushin is safe following a bomb explosion suspected to have been caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
Speaking at the scene on Monday, the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, said security operatives immediately deployed the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit after receiving reports of the blast.
According to the police commissioner, preliminary investigations revealed that the explosive device had been planted beneath a vehicle and detonated when the engine was started.
“The IED was under the vehicle by the passenger side. It exploded when the vehicle was started,” Tijani said.
The explosion reportedly caused panic in the busy commercial area, but only one person sustained injuries and was rushed to a hospital for treatment. Police said the victim is currently in a stable condition.
Following a comprehensive search of the area, the EOD team confirmed that no additional explosive devices were found, easing fears of further danger.
Tijani urged residents and traders in the area to remain calm and continue with their normal activities, assuring them that security agencies are on top of the situation and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
The cause of the attack and those responsible for planting the device have yet to be identified.
