Tinubu in Meeting with service chiefs
  • President Bola Tinubu has convened a closed-door meeting with Nigeria’s Service Chiefs at the Presidential Villa, his first since the appointment of a new Minister of Defence, as security challenges continue to dominate national discourse.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday held a closed-door meeting with Nigeria’s Service Chiefs at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The meeting, which began at about 6:01pm local time, saw the nation’s top military and security leaders arrive at the forecourt of the Presidential Villa before being ushered into the President’s office.

This marks Tinubu’s first engagement with the military high command since the swearing-in of General Christopher Musa (retd.) as the new Minister of Defence on December 4.

While the specific agenda of the meeting has not been made public, it comes at a time of heightened security concerns across the country.

Notably, 115 students abducted from a Catholic boarding school in November are still being held in captivity, fueling public anxiety and calls for decisive action.

The meeting also follows President Tinubu’s recent declaration of a national security emergency on November 26, during which he ordered fresh recruitment into security agencies and directed the withdrawal of police personnel attached to VIPs, as part of broader efforts to strengthen internal security.

Additionally, the engagement comes just days after the Senate approved the President’s request to deploy Nigerian troops to the Republic of Benin, following an attempted coup in the neighbouring country.

The outcome of the meeting is expected to shape the Federal Government’s next steps in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.
