• President Bola Tinubu has nominated Bernard Doro, a UK-trained pharmacist and clinical practitioner from Plateau State, as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, pending confirmation by the Senate.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Bernard Doro from Plateau State as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, according to a statement released on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Onanuga confirmed that President Tinubu has forwarded Doro’s name to the Senate for confirmation, though it remains unclear which ministerial portfolio the nominee will oversee.

Doro’s nomination comes shortly after the election of Nentawe Yilwatda — also from Plateau State — as the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman in July. Yilwatda previously served as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, a position expected to be filled by the new appointee.

Born on January 23, 1969, in Kwall, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, Doro boasts over two decades of professional experience in clinical practice, pharmaceutical management, and community development across Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

He holds degrees in Pharmacy and Law, an MBA focused on IT-driven business strategy, and a Master’s degree in Advanced Clinical Practice.

According to official information, Doro is an Independent Prescriber and Advanced Clinical Practitioner with frontline experience in the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK. His work has spanned urgent care, walk-in centres, general practice, and hospital settings.

Beyond medicine, he has also led youth mentorship and social impact initiatives in both the diaspora and local Nigerian communities, earning recognition for his leadership and civic engagement.

Onanuga added that the President expects the Senate to expedite consideration of the nomination in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“This nomination reflects the President’s commitment to merit-based appointments and a cabinet that blends local experience with global expertise,” Onanuga said.
