A dramatic leadership showdown erupted on Monday at the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja, as FCT Minister Nyesom Wike clashed with Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State in a heated struggle over control of the party’s headquarters.

VerseNews reports that both camps arrived with heavy security escorts, leading to a chaotic confrontation as operatives loyal to each side engaged in a free-for-all contest to seize control of the facility. The situation escalated sharply, with thick clouds of teargas filling the Wuse Zone 5 district as rival security teams attempted to overpower each other.

Governor Makinde stormed the Secretariat in the company of the newly elected National Secretary, Taofeek Arapaja, insisting he was the legitimate occupant of the office. However, Wike’s camp stood its ground, with the embattled National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, declaring that his tenure remains valid until December 8, 2025.

The tense standoff drew widespread concern among party leaders, many of whom accused the police of failing to remain neutral in the escalating crisis shaking the main opposition party.

As of press time, the Secretariat remains on lockdown, with fears that the internal conflict could deepen unless urgent reconciliation measures are taken.
