Facebook parent company Meta has announced its intention to lunch a subscription package called Meta Verified.

A statement released by by the Chairman and CEO of Meta Platform, Mark Zuckerberg via its official site, Meta Verified comes with features aimed to increase the authenticity and security of its services.

The statement partly reads: “Long term, we want to build a subscription offering that’s valuable to everyone, including creators, businesses and our community at large. As part of this vision, we are evolving the meaning of the verified badge so we can expand access to verification and more people can trust the accounts they interact with are authentic.”

The statement added that the Meta Verified will cost 11.99USD a month on the web and 14.99 for iPhone and Android users.

The Expected features for the Meta Verified are:

  • The subscriber must be 18 years and above
  • The Subscription package will come with a verified blue tick badge on Instagram and Facebook
  • Its authentication will be backed with a government ID with photo that matches your profile picture
  • The subscription package will provide “proactive account protection, access to account support, and increase visibility and reach”

In addition to the above features, the company disclosed that the paid subscription plan won’t allow change of profile name, username, date of birth or photo. If you must do that, you will have to unsubscribe and apply for verification again with payment.

“At this time, Meta Verified will only support your real name on your profile. Once your profile is verified, you can’t change the profile name, username, date of birth, or photo on your profile without going through the Meta Verified subscription and verifications application process again,” Meta said

Speaking on the already verified accounts on Facebook and Instagram, the company assured that they won’t be affected by the new changes.

Meta further said the testing of the subscription package will be carried out in Australia and New Zealand before they will effectively bring the service to users in other countries.

This Online News Media learnt that for many years Facebook was introduced, its homepage had displayed the slogan “free and always will be”

Earlier 2019, the company dropped the slogan and said there was nothing “free” since the service manages users’ personal data for personalized ads.
