FULL LIST: Rivers APC Clears 33 Assembly Aspirants, Disqualifies 65

• The APC has cleared all 29 Rivers State House of Assembly lawmakers aligned with Nyesom Wike for the 2027 Assembly primaries, while 65 other aspirants were disqualified.

The screening exercise conducted by the All Progressives Congress for aspirants seeking to contest seats in the Rivers State House of Assembly has ended with the clearance of all 29 incumbent lawmakers aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

According to the committee’s final report obtained on Monday, the screening exercise concluded on Sunday, May 10, 2026, with 33 aspirants cleared to participate in the party primaries, while 65 others were disqualified.

The report indicated that all 29 incumbent lawmakers led by the Deputy Speaker, Dumle Maol, successfully passed the screening process and will participate in the APC primaries ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.

The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, was reportedly absent from the list as he is said to have obtained a nomination form to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives.

Among those cleared by the committee were Dumle Maol, Major M. Jack, Nwabochi Frankline, Ofiks K. Christopher, Enemi Alabo George, Tonye Smart Adoki, Tekenari W. Granville, Azeru Opara, Igwe Obey Aforji, Opuende Lolo Isaiah, Ukalikpe Napoleon, Hope Ugwumadu, Kenneth Minimah, Justina Aniton Okorji, Onyema Rex Nwankwo, Jumbo Soparagh, Wami Solomon, Gift Esede Ali, Ejekwu Chisa Nathan, Peter E. Abbey, Loolo Bulabari Henrietta, Barida Alice Samuel, Ohanuna Bright N., Kue Yeghene, Nwankwo Chimezie C., Emeji Gloria Chika, Ejekwu Ezebunwo Leslie, Okpokipoy Peters, Arnold O. Davids, Gerald C. Oforji, Amadi Promise Amadi, Opuene Thompson Atekebo, and Amakri Awowari.

However, dozens of other aspirants failed to scale through the screening process. The committee stated that it concluded its assignment on May 10, 2026, and commended aspirants, party officials, and security personnel for their cooperation throughout the screening exercise.

According to the report, several aspirants were disqualified for reasons ranging from irregular documentation to party membership issues.

The committee listed reasons for disqualification to include “nomination by individuals who were not financially up-to-date members of the party, attempted inducement or bribery, submission of unsworn affidavits, failure to present voter cards or party membership slips, conflicting dates of birth, irregularities in documentation, and insufficient or invalid nominators, among others.”
