Peter Obi Gets Greenlight as NDC Zones 2027 Presidential Ticket to South
The Nigeria Democratic Congress has zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria.
- The Nigeria Democratic Congress has zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria, a move widely seen as strengthening the chances of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi ahead of the next general election.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria.
The decision was announced on Saturday during the party’s national convention held in Abuja and is widely viewed as a major boost for former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi.
The party also confirmed the development in a post on its official X handle, stating, “NDC Presidential ticket is zoned to the South!!”
The convention was attended by key party figures, including Obi and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
According to the convention agenda made available to journalists, major issues slated for deliberation included zoning arrangements, ratification of the amended party constitution and the election of national executives.
The NDC has recently witnessed a wave of defections from other political parties, particularly the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
On Tuesday, 17 members of the House of Representatives defected from the ADC to the NDC during plenary.
The lawmakers include Yusuf Datti, Uchenna Okonkwo, Adamu Wakili, Thaddeus Attah, George Ozodinobi, Lilian Orogbu, Oluwaseyi Sowunmi, Peter Aniekwe, Mukhtar Zakari, George Oluwande and Munachim Umezuruike.
Others are Emeka Idu, Jesse Onuakalusi, Ifeanyi Uzokwe, Afam Ogene, Murphy Omoruyi and Abdulhakeem Ado.

The defections came two days after Obi and Kwankwaso formally joined the NDC from the ADC.
Obi, who was the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, and Kwankwaso, former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, received their NDC membership cards on Sunday after a closed-door meeting with party leaders.
They were formally welcomed into the party by former Bayelsa State Governor and NDC national leader, Seriake Dickson.
Obi had cited worsening internal crises, external interference and growing hostility within party structures as reasons for leaving the ADC, which he joined in December 2025 after exiting the Labour Party.
