The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria.

The decision was announced on Saturday during the party’s national convention held in Abuja and is widely viewed as a major boost for former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi.

The party also confirmed the development in a post on its official X handle, stating, “NDC Presidential ticket is zoned to the South!!”

Obi, who was the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, and Kwankwaso, former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, received their NDC membership cards on Sunday after a closed-door meeting with party leaders.

They were formally welcomed into the party by former Bayelsa State Governor and NDC national leader, Seriake Dickson.

Obi had cited worsening internal crises, external interference and growing hostility within party structures as reasons for leaving the ADC, which he joined in December 2025 after exiting the Labour Party.
