The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revealed that he regularly asks his wife to pray that President Bola Tinubu continues to support the FCT Administration, saying such backing is crucial for ministers to succeed in office.

Wike made the remarks on Tuesday during the inauguration of the Water Supply Network to Bwari Satellite Town in the Bwari Area Council of the FCT.

The former Rivers State governor said the FCT Administration has officially commissioned 50 projects so far, with plans to inaugurate 10 additional projects before January.

“This is the 50th official commissioning of projects. Before January next year, God willing, we will commission another 10 projects before we go for campaigns,” he said.

Reflecting on his experience as both a former governor and minister, Wike stressed that no minister can perform effectively without the full backing of the President.

“I’ve been a governor and I’ve been a minister before. If you don’t have that support, it is difficult for you to perform. You must have that support,” he said.

The minister disclosed that while he does not consider himself someone who prays extensively, his wife is deeply devoted to prayer, prompting him to rely on her spiritual support.

“Each day I wake up, I tell my wife—she prays a lot. I don’t know how to pray very well. The only prayer I pray is, ‘God, let me come back safely today.’ But I tell her, ‘Continue to pray that Mr President will not look away from us,’” Wike said.

According to him, President Tinubu has provided the FCT Administration with the necessary support to transform the nation’s capital, and his team remains committed to delivering on its mandate.

“And Mr President has given the FCT all the support required to change the narrative. On our part, we will not disappoint him. We will continue to do everything possible to ensure the people of the FCT are happy,” he added.

Wike also said the essence of governance is to improve the lives of citizens, noting that the Tinubu administration remains focused on making meaningful changes that positively impact Nigerians.

“When people are happy, those in authority will also be happy. Governance is about making people’s lives better, and that’s what Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is doing,” he said.
