- Nollywood actor Ray Emodi has revealed that severe burnout forced him to step away from acting after starring in nearly 300 productions, as he apologised to fans and confirmed his return to the screen.

Nollywood actor Ray Emodi has opened up about the real reason behind his decision to quit acting last year, revealing that years of nonstop work left him physically and mentally exhausted.
In an emotional message to fans, the actor said he had been acting continuously since 2017, featuring in nearly 300 productions, including feature films, television series and short films, without taking proper breaks or vacations.
“This is a video I never thought I would make in my life, but life is crazy. Life has ups and downs, but at the end of the day, the most important thing is that we all get it right.”
Explaining why he stepped away from Nollywood, Emodi said:
“I stopped because I was tired. I have been acting since 2017 till last year, appearing in about 300 productions, including feature films, short films, and TV series, with no proper breaks or vacations.”
The actor, who holds a Master’s degree in Acting for Film, said he takes his craft seriously but eventually reached a point of burnout after years of relentless work.
“I overworked myself and reached burnout.”
Emodi admitted that announcing he was leaving acting for music without fully explaining his reasons may have confused or disappointed his supporters.
“Waking up one day to tell you guys that, ‘Hey, I’m not acting again, I’m doing music only,’ that switch of role wasn’t right… It’s almost like I swindled you guys. So I apologise for that.”
The actor also responded to critics who questioned his decision, insisting it was never about comparing himself to legendary athletes or seeking attention.
Now, Emodi says he is ready to return to acting but with a healthier approach that prioritises his well-being.
“Now I am back, but I will do things differently this time. I will not overwork myself again. I will only take roles that allow me to stay creatively satisfied without getting exhausted.”
Reaffirming his passion for filmmaking, he said his ultimate goal has always been to make a lasting impact through his work rather than simply chasing financial success.
“My goal has always been to leave a positive impact through my craft, not just to make money. So I apologise to my fans, and I promise to handle things better moving forward.”
