Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has refuted claims made in certain sections of the media that he had dismissed the State Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Amadi, his Chief of Staff, Hon. Chidi Amadi, and suspended the Chairmen of the 23 Local Government Areas.

VerseNews learnt that there were also speculations that the governor had fired his Chief Security Officer amid the crisis that erupted in the State House of Assembly during the impeachment process and subsequent chaos.

Earlier reports from some media outlets suggested that Fubara took action against the aforementioned loyalists of former governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to assert his authority.

Our correspondent notes that Fubara’s CoS, Hon. Amadi, is Wike’s relative from Obio/Akpor LGA. Amadi was appointed during the Wike-led administration, while the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Tamyy Danagogo, served in the same position under Wike.

The state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Warisenibo Johnson, issued a statement on Tuesday morning stating that the reports in various media platforms were completely baseless.

Johnson describes Fubara as a ‘technocrat with a strong civil service background’ and a compassionate individual who follows rules and acts with the fear of God.

The statement titled ‘Unfounded Reports’ reads, “There have been unfounded reports circulating on various media platforms regarding His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, sacking certain categories of his aides and local council chairmen.

“I would like to clarify that as the official spokesperson of the state government, His Excellency has not issued such a directive as of today, Tuesday, October 31, 2023.

“Our esteemed governor is a technocrat, with a strong civil service background, kind-hearted, and a very humane person who follows rules and acts with the fear of God.

“Therefore, we urge the people of Rivers and the general public to disregard such unconfirmed reports, as they will be properly informed about any removals made by His Excellency at the appropriate time.

“It is important to note that as the Commissioner for Information and Communication, I will provide updates to the public when necessary.
