  • Rap superstar Nicki Minaj will join US Ambassador to the UN, Mike Waltz, in New York on Tuesday to speak on the rising violence against Christians in Nigeria, following reports that thousands have been killed in 2025 alone.

International rapper Nicki Minaj, who has sold over 100 million records globally, is set to appear alongside United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Mike Waltz, in New York City on Tuesday to address the growing violence against Christians in Nigeria.

The development comes after the US State Department earlier this month designated Nigeria a “country of particular concern,” following allegations highlighted by former President Donald Trump that Christians were being killed in large numbers.

Trump recently appointed Rep. Riley Moore (R-WV) to lead a federal investigation into attacks on Christians. According to Moore’s findings, 7,000 Nigerian Christians have been killed in 2025 alone, while between 50,000 and 100,000 have been killed since 2009. Advocacy group Open Doors also stated that “more Christians are killed for their faith in Nigeria than in the rest of the world combined.”

Earlier in November, Minaj publicly praised Trump’s intervention:

“No group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion… Thank you to The President & his team for taking this seriously. God bless every persecuted Christian,” Minaj wrote on X.

Ambassador Waltz, in a statement on Sunday, expressed appreciation for Minaj’s involvement.

“I’m grateful to Nicki Minaj for leveraging her massive platform to spotlight the atrocities against Christians in Nigeria,” Waltz said.

“I look forward to standing with her as we discuss steps the administration is taking to end the persecution.”

Minaj, who moved to the US from Trinidad, responded with gratitude:

“I am so grateful to be entrusted with an opportunity of this magnitude… The Barbz & I will never stand down in the face of injustice,” she wrote on X.

However, the Nigerian government has rejected claims that Christians are being exclusively targeted. President Bola Tinubu’s office issued a statement disputing the characterization of the violence.

“Portraying Nigeria’s security challenges as a targeted campaign against a single religious group is a gross misrepresentation of reality. Terrorists attack all who reject their murderous ideology – Muslims, Christians, and those of no faith alike,” the statement said.

Minaj’s appearance at the UN event is expected to draw global attention, given her massive fan base and influence across social media.
