Peter Obi Holds Closed-Door Meeting With Obasanjo Ahead of 2027

• Peter Obi has met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abuja, sparking fresh speculation over the 2027 presidential election as neither leader disclosed details of their discussions.

Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Wednesday met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, fueling fresh political speculation ahead of the 2027 general election.

Photos from the meeting were shared on X by Obi’s campaign photographer, Esther Umoh, who confirmed the visit in a brief post.

“Earlier today, the presidential candidate of the NDC, Peter Obi, met with former president Olusegun Obasanjo,” she wrote.

The photographs showed Obi, dressed in a blue traditional outfit, walking alongside Obasanjo, who wore a white native attire and a blue patterned cap. A Catholic bishop was also seen with the two leaders during parts of the meeting.

The images captured both outdoor and indoor moments of the visit, but neither Obi nor Obasanjo disclosed the purpose of their discussions.

The meeting comes amid renewed public interest in Obasanjo’s political influence and possible role in the build-up to the 2027 presidential election.

Meanwhile, Oyo State Governor and Allied People’s Movement (APM) presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, is set to inaugurate the party’s Oyo State Presidential and Governorship Campaign Council on Friday.

According to a statement issued by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olarenwaju, the inauguration will take place at 3:30 p.m. at the Conference Room of the Governor’s Office in Ibadan.

The statement named the Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Nureni Adeniran, as the Oyo State Coordinator of the APM 2027 Presidential Campaign and Director-General of the state’s Governorship Campaign Council.

Other appointments include Saheed Arowosaye as Deputy State Coordinator, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Demola Ojo, as Deputy Director-General (South), Dr. Femi Ojo and Alhaji Siju Lawal as Deputy Directors-General for Oyo Central and Oyo North, Hon. Ramata Agberemi Dabo as Director of the Women’s Wing, and Hon. Kazeem Bolarinwa as Director of the Youth Wing.

The party said additional members of the campaign council will be announced in due course.
