The newly appointed Head of the Fourth Administration of the Directorate of State (DOS) of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Chris Nwaọgụ, has declared what he described as the end of “confusion, betrayal, abandonment and internal sabotage” within the movement, while warning individuals challenging the new leadership that they could face legal consequences.

In a worldwide address to Biafrans, Nwaọgụ said the reconstitution of the Directorate of State was carried out by IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, whom he described as the movement’s Supreme Leader, acting from the Sokoto Custodial Centre.

According to him, the latest leadership changes mark the beginning of a new phase aimed at restoring discipline, accountability and unity within the separatist movement.

“The era of confusion, betrayal, abandonment, and internal sabotage is over. Our movement must return to the principles upon which it was founded—truth, loyalty, discipline, sacrifice, accountability, and absolute commitment,” he stated.

Leadership Dispute Takes Centre Stage

Nwaọgụ accused some former members of the Directorate of State of contradicting themselves by questioning Kanu’s authority to appoint or remove officials after previously accepting appointments made while he was in detention.

He argued that IPOB’s Code of Conduct gives the Supreme Leader the exclusive authority to appoint, suspend or dissolve the movement’s principal officers.

“Authority cannot be valid when it benefits you and become invalid the moment you are held accountable,” he said.

Warning to Rival Groups

The new DOS head warned that any individual or group claiming to represent IPOB without authorization does so at their own risk.

According to him, those allegedly using the movement’s name, identity or structures without approval could face legal action in the countries where they reside.

He added that IPOB’s governing documents have been communicated to relevant authorities in jurisdictions where the organisation has recognised structures and said any future disputes would be determined under applicable laws.

Radio Biafra to Return

Among the major announcements made during the address was a pledge to restore Radio Biafra, which he described as a key platform that once educated and mobilised supporters worldwide.

Nwaọgụ said his administration would work to bring the station back on air so that what he described as the “authentic voice” of the movement could once again be heard.

Support for Detained Members and ESN Welfare

The new DOS leadership also pledged to prioritise legal assistance for IPOB members currently in detention across Nigeria.

According to him, the movement’s legal team has begun identifying individuals held by the Department of State Services (DSS) and correctional facilities with the aim of pursuing lawful avenues for their release.

He further disclosed that his administration would review welfare arrangements for members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) and strengthen oversight of resources allocated for their welfare.

Promise of Financial Transparency

Nwaọgụ promised to restore financial accountability within IPOB, stating that contributions made by supporters belong to the movement and must be managed transparently.

He also announced plans to provide weekly updates on the legal proceedings involving Nnamdi Kanu, saying supporters deserve accurate information rather than rumours.

The address ended with a call for unity among IPOB supporters and a renewed commitment to the movement’s objective of pursuing the restoration of Biafra.
