- Residents of six northern states will experience a temporary power outage this weekend as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) carries out maintenance work aimed at improving the national electricity transmission network.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a temporary power outage across six northern states as it undertakes scheduled maintenance on a key transmission line.
The planned blackout will affect residents of Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, Borno, Adamawa, and Taraba states, including major cities such as Bauchi, Damaturu, Maiduguri, Yola, and Jalingo.
In a statement issued on Saturday by TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the company explained that the outage is necessary to facilitate the installation of an Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) on the 330kV Jos–Bauchi–Gombe single-circuit transmission line at the Bauchi 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation.
According to TCN, the maintenance work will temporarily disrupt bulk electricity supply to the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) and the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC), preventing both distribution companies from supplying power to customers in the affected areas during the exercise.
“As a result, Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) and Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) will be unable to off-take electricity for onward delivery to customers in Bauchi, Gombe, Damaturu, Maiduguri, Yola, Jalingo and their environs,” the statement said.
TCN assured residents that the interruption is temporary and that electricity supply will be restored immediately after the maintenance work is completed.
“Please note that bulk power supply will be restored immediately after the exercise,” the company added.
The transmission company said the maintenance forms part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s electricity transmission infrastructure, improve grid reliability, and enhance power supply across the country.
