Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has vowed to approach the Court of Appeal following the Federal High Court judgment that nullified the David Mark-led leadership of the African Democratic Congress and invalidated his presidential nomination.

Reacting on Thursday, November 5, Atiku alleged that the ruling was intended to weaken the opposition party and disrupt his campaign ahead of the 2027 elections.

His response was issued through Phrank Shaibu, Director of Strategic Communication of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council.

Atiku questioned the timing of the decision, which came a day after his campaign rally in Sokoto. He alleged that it formed part of an effort to undermine his support in Northern Nigeria, while insisting that his political appeal extended nationwide.

He also cited an earlier judgment by Justice Musa Liman, which he said had dismissed a challenge to the Mark-led leadership, and questioned why the dispute had been reopened.

Atiku said his campaign would continue and urged supporters to remain peaceful and focused.

“There is no shaking,” he declared.

The judgment was delivered by Justice Peter Lifu in a suit brought by Nafiu Bala Gombe, a former ADC Deputy National Chairman for the North-East.

Gombe challenged the process through which Mark and other members of the caretaker committee assumed office following the resignation of former chairman Ralph Nwosu.

The court upheld the challenge and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission not to recognise decisions taken at the party’s July 27, 2025 National Executive Committee meeting and subsequent actions, including nominations for the 2027 elections.

The dispute had previously reached the Supreme Court, which restored the Mark leadership in April while directing the Federal High Court to conclude the substantive proceedings. That earlier intervention was not a final determination of the underlying case.

Atiku’s claim of political interference remains an allegation. His announced intention to appeal does not establish that the judgment has been overturned.
