Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has said he would strengthen opposition parties and make them active participants in governance if elected President of Nigeria.
Speaking during an interview with media entrepreneur Chude Jideonwo, aired on Saturday, Obi argued that no political party has a monopoly on ideas capable of moving the country forward.
According to him, Nigeria needs greater collaboration among political parties and leaders to deliver better results for citizens.
“If I’m the president of this country, I will do everything possible to make opposition parties strong and participatory in governance.”
He added:
“The more you bring everybody together, the more we discuss it, the more we consult, the better result.”
Obi made the remarks while responding to a question on whether President Bola Tinubu believes the ruling party alone has the capacity to rescue Nigeria.
The former Anambra State governor maintained that effective governance comes from embracing diverse ideas rather than sidelining opposing voices.
Obi was among the politicians who formed the opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in July 2025 before officially joining the party later that year.
However, in May 2026, he left the ADC for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), citing internal divisions and ongoing court cases within the party.
