A 26-year-old Ghanaian lawyer, Sara Araba Tettey, has died after reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest while celebrating Ghana’s opening victory over Panama at the FIFA World Cup.
Tettey, a newly qualified legal practitioner and graduate of the Faculty of Law at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), reportedly collapsed shortly after the final whistle as jubilant fans celebrated the Black Stars’ victory on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
According to local reports, the young lawyer had recently been called to the Ghana Bar and was working with O & A Legal Consult. She was widely regarded by colleagues and friends as a bright and promising talent in Ghana’s legal profession.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that Tettey was watching the match with friends at Standard Hostel, a private student residence near the KNUST campus in Bomso, Kumasi, when she suddenly became unresponsive during the celebrations.
Friends and bystanders immediately rushed her to the KNUST Hospital, where doctors and emergency responders fought to save her life.
Sources said medical personnel performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for approximately 45 minutes in an effort to revive her. Despite their efforts, she was later pronounced dead.
The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through Ghana’s legal and academic communities, with many expressing grief over the sudden loss of a young professional whose career was only beginning to flourish.

Tettey, popularly known among friends and colleagues as “Araba Tettey,” was remembered as intelligent, compassionate, hardworking, and dedicated to her profession.
