The Supreme Court has affirmed Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s victory as the duly elected Governor of Lagos State.

VerseNews reports that Justice Garba Lawal, delivering judgment on Friday, rejected the appeal from the Labour Party’s candidate, Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.

Sanwo-Olu had earlier urged the Supreme Court to dismiss challenges to his victory in the February 25 governorship election.

However, Rhodes-Vivour, along with the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate, Abdulazeez Adediran, contested Sanwo-Olu’s victory.

The Labour Party called on the apex court to declare the March 18 election flawed due to irregularities and non-compliance with the Electoral Act.

They also argued that Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat was ineligible to participate in the election.

Similarly, Adediran presented 34 grounds of appeal, seeking to overturn the decisions of the Lagos State Governorship Election Tribunal and the Court of Appeal.

However, Sanwo-Olu’s counsel, Nas Ogunsakin, pointed out that the applicants failed to provide evidence supporting their claims, and the witnesses they brought were deemed incompetent.
