NAFDAC Raids Sahad Stores in Abuja, seizing counterfeit cosmetics and drugs in a series of operations across various locations.

The agency also targeted H-Medix outlets and other markets, confiscating fake products valued at N50 million.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) conducted a series of raids on Thursday at Sahad Stores, H-Medix, and other establishments in Abuja, seizing counterfeit cosmetics and drugs.

VerseNews reports that the operation was carried out in response to intelligence gathered from concerned citizens about the sale of fake products in these locations.

At H-Medix outlets in Wuse 2 and Gwarinpa, the authorities uncovered and confiscated counterfeit cosmetics. Meanwhile, the Utako market in the Federal Capital Territory saw the seizure of fake medications.

Embugushiki-Musa Godiya, NAFDAC Head of Investigation and Enforcement/Federal Taskforce in Abuja, reported that similar operations were carried out at Kugbo market in Nyanya and the Mararaba area in Nasarawa State earlier in the week.

On Wednesday, NAFDAC raided Wuse Market and seized counterfeit goods valued at millions of naira. The three-day operation aimed to remove counterfeit products from the market and ensure they are destroyed.

Godiya expressed concern over the sale of substandard NIVEA cream and other cosmetics at prices higher than approved by NAFDAC, calling it criminal.

The market value of the confiscated goods included N5 million in counterfeit medications and N45 million in fake cosmetics and household products, including Jik bleach, Harpic toilet cleaner, and Airwick room freshener. The total value of goods seized during the operation reached N50 million.

“We have been able to successfully recover some of the counterfeit products, evacuate them for destruction. Our concern is one of the products, purported to be NIVEA NAFDAC regulated product, but it is not.

“The most shocking to me is that such substandard NIVEA cream and other cosmetics are even more expensive than the ones approved by NAFDAC, this is criminal.

“The market value of what we have seen so far for drug hawking is N5 million, and for the NIVEA products, other cosmetics and other products including Jik bleach, Harpic toilet cleaner and Airwick room freshner, all counterfeit in large quantity, valued at N45 million.
