A court issued a bench warrant against social media critic VeryDarkMan for failing to appear over allegations of defaming singer Mercy Chinwo.
His lawyer claims the case is a media trial, while Chinwo’s legal team argues the allegations were false and damaging to her reputation.
A Lagos High Court in Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) has ordered the arrest of social media influencer, VeryDarkMan (VDM), for “criminal defamation” of gospel singer Mercy Chinwo’s reputation.
VerseNews reports that the bench warrant was issued after VDM failed to appear in court on Thursday for a hearing regarding his allegations that Chinwo was involved in the misappropriation of $345,000 linked to her former record label boss, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu (Eezee Tee).

“The Senate President did not preside over any case related to such allegations. What was addressed was a flagrant disregard for Senate rules, and we followed due process as guided by the Constitution,” said Senate Majority Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele.
Chinwo, through her counsel, also filed a N1.1 billion defamation lawsuit against VDM at the Federal Capital Territory High Court, presenting emails and payment receipts to support her claims.
Meanwhile, VDM’s lawyer, Adeyanju, has assured that his client will appear in court despite rejecting the bench warrant issued on March 21, 2025.
