This Online News Media gathered that the 21-year-old man from Lagos was to be paid up to £7,000 eros in exchange for his kidney plus other promised benefits.
The court was informed by the accuser who doesn’t want his name to be mentioned that Ekwerendu falsely presented the young man as Sonia’s cousin at the Royal Free Hospital in London to carry out the £8,000 private procedure.
As an evidence in favour of the young man, Ekweremadu was asked about the £8,000 bills he received from his brother, Diwe on February 2022.
Diwe wrote; “I have received a huge bill from a consultant doctor”
But Ekwerendu responded that “he was being scammed”
Defence lawyer Martin Hicks asked: “Why not at this stage say we are being scammed Dr Obeta, end of, stop?”
“My daughter’s life was on the line so if we stop we will be putting my daughter’s life in danger. So we just keep moving,” Ekweremadu replied.
“Everybody was obviously taking advantage of my daughter’s ill health,” he added.
