ADC has responded to speculation about Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, returning to PDP.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has ruled out the possibility of Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, returning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting that such a move would be “too risky” for the former Anambra State governor politically.

ADC spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi, a former PDP chieftain and ex-Minister of Youth and Sports, made this assertion on Monday during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time.

Abdullahi dismissed ongoing reports suggesting that the PDP was trying to woo Obi back, emphasizing that the former governor remains a key figure in the coalition of opposition parties being spearheaded by the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He said, “Let me say clearly, Peter Obi is in the coalition. Regardless of what anybody is saying… But everyone knows the jugular of the PDP is in the hands of the ruling party. Peter Obi, more than anyone else, knows that he cannot take the risk of going to the PDP.”

This development comes after Professor Jerry Gana, a former Minister of Information and PDP founding member, hailed Obi as “a symbol of hope” and one of the few credible leaders capable of helping rebuild Nigeria.

In a recent interview with Africa Independent Television (AIT), Gana praised Obi as “disciplined, prudent, and deeply committed to the Nigerian project,” stressing that he is a vital figure for the future of democracy and good governance in the country.

Gana also reiterated the urgent need for a broad opposition coalition, warning that no single party could unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027 without strategic unity.
