A school guard in Abuja has confessed to killing a nurse and a 14-month-old baby after collecting a ₦3 million ransom.

A chilling confession has emerged from David Moses, a security guard deployed to Clear Hope Foundation Academy, Dawaki, Abuja, who has admitted to the gruesome murder of a 55-year-old school nurse and caregiver, Mrs. Chinyere Anaene, and a 14-month-old toddler, Nanenter Yese.

Moses told journalists at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command on Friday that he was influenced by an alleged accomplice, Sunday Irimiya, who is currently on the run.

“What brought me here is that I killed a child with a nurse in Clear Hope School on July 23. My friend and I demanded N250m ransom. We later settled for N3m, which we collected,”

Moses revealed that he and Sunday initially demanded ₦250 million as ransom, before settling for ₦3 million. However, after receiving the money, a dispute erupted between the pair, resulting in Sunday stabbing Moses and fleeing with the cash.

“We had issues while sharing the ransom. My friend stabbed me with a knife, took the money, and ran away… I insisted on seeing the police so they could take me to the hospital and I could explain the whole story,”

The Crime Scene

According to Moses, Sunday strangled Anaene in a toilet near the school premises after she was lured under the pretense of inspecting something. The toddler, Nanenter Yese, was later abducted and murdered—reportedly at Sunday’s insistence.

“I went to call her from her class… Sunday came out from behind and held the woman. He put a rope around her neck and started strangling her. She struggled but eventually became weak,”

“He told me to run and bring the baby so we could also kill the baby… I said no, that the woman alone was enough. He insisted… so I went and brought the baby,”

When asked if he had committed similar crimes in the past, Moses claimed this was his first involvement in criminal activity, stating:

“I have never done such a thing. This was the first time someone pushed me into any evil act.”

Shockingly, Moses also mentioned that Mrs. Anaene had been kind to him, giving him ₦300 for food on the same day she was murdered.

“The woman was nice to me. In fact, that very day, she gave me ₦300 to buy food,”

Lapses in Security Oversight

Zachariah Fiyinfoluwa, a representative of the private security firm that employed Moses, said he was unaware of Sunday Irimiya’s existence.

“I don’t know anybody called Sunday. The person we posted to the school is David,”

However, when pressed, Fiyinfoluwa admitted that the company failed to document Moses properly, including the lack of a guarantor file.

“For us not to keep the record, I accept that it’s our fault,”
Fiyinfoluwa

He also conceded that although supervisors were supposed to routinely visit deployment sites, it was unclear whether such oversight occurred at Clear Hope School.

Ongoing Investigation

FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, confirmed that the school reported the nurse and toddler missing on July 23, 2025, and that the ₦250 million ransom demand was made through the caregiver’s phone that same day.

Following swift police investigation, Moses was arrested and confessed to the double murder. The police have also arrested the school principal, two other guards, and the Chief Security Officer of the private security firm for possible negligence and conspiracy.

“We are still working to apprehend Sunday Irimiya, who is currently at large,”
