Former Governor of Kano State and 2023 NNPP presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is poised to return to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as he formally outlines “conditions” for his defection.
Multiple sources confirmed that Kwankwaso has written to APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, stating the terms for his comeback. The letter was reportedly submitted directly to the party’s national leadership in Abuja, sidestepping the Kano State chapter due to his long-running rivalry with the local leadership.

A senior official at the APC national secretariat disclosed that talks between Kwankwaso and the party had advanced significantly after a recent meeting with the presidency.
“As a party, we will abide by whatever decision the leaders feel is in the interest of the party,” the source said.
Kwankwaso, who was central to NNPP’s 2023 electoral victory in Kano — including Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s defeat of APC’s Nasir Yusuf Gawuna — is demanding assurances before crossing back. His conditions reportedly include securing the APC governorship ticket for Governor Yusuf in the next election and being offered a key role in a future APC-led federal administration.

“We are aware of the letter he submitted but it’s not something we can discuss now. If he is coming, we have nothing against that — he is welcome,” a Kano APC source revealed. “From what we know, he submitted it in Abuja, not in Kano. Whatever the case, once everything is finalised, it will be made public.”

Meanwhile, insiders close to Governor Yusuf confirmed he is prepared to follow his mentor’s political path.
“Our governor has no objection at all,” one insider said. “He is only waiting for the green light from his mentor.”
