  • President Bola Tinubu has dismissed Donald Trump’s claim that Christians face an “existential threat” in Nigeria, insisting that the country remains committed to peace, unity, and religious freedom for all citizens.

The Federal Government has responded to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s claim that Christianity faces an “existential threat” in Nigeria, insisting that the statement does not reflect the true situation in the country.

Trump, in a post on Truth Social on Friday, announced he was re-designating Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC), alleging that radical Islamists were behind the mass killing of Christians. He also urged U.S. lawmakers, including Riley Moore and Tom Cole, to investigate the issue and report back to him.

In response, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said Nigeria remains a country where people of all faiths coexist peacefully.

“While Nigeria appreciates global concern for human rights and religious freedom, these claims do not reflect the situation on the ground,” the statement read. “Nigerians of all faiths have long lived, worked, and worshipped together peacefully.”
