Legendary Nigerian singer Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Fac or 2Baba, has described his hit song African Queen as both a blessing and a burden in his long and celebrated career.
Speaking on the Entertainment & Lifestyle Show, which trended on Sunday, the veteran artiste reflected on the mixed legacy of the 2004 classic that made him a continental superstar.
“That song has been a very huge blessing — and e don turn to problem join for me, you know,” 2Baba said with a laugh. “But like I said earlier, I’m grateful for everything.”
He acknowledged that while African Queen remains his most iconic hit, he has created many other songs that have deeply resonated with fans over the years.

“There are so many other songs I have that are brilliant, and many people connect with them too,” he added.

Released in 2004 as part of his debut solo album Face 2 Face, African Queen catapulted 2Baba to international fame, earning him BET, MTV Europe, and MOBO awards, and cementing his legacy as one of Africa’s greatest musical exports.
However, the song’s legacy has not been without controversy. His former Plantashun Boiz bandmate, Ahmedu Augustine Obiabo (Blackface), has repeatedly accused him of stealing the song — a claim 2Baba has consistently denied.
According to 2Baba, African Queen was a collaborative effort during their band days, not an act of theft.
The long-running debate resurfaced in August 2025, after Billboard named African Queen the “Greatest Afrobeats Song of All Time.”
