Governors elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have applauded the administration of President Bola Tinubu over what they described as significant achievements in the education and healthcare sectors.

Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, made the remarks while speaking to journalists after a meeting of Progressive Governors held in Abuja.

According to Uzodinma, the Tinubu-led administration has implemented policies that now allow Nigerians to access education and healthcare regardless of their financial status. He cited the introduction of student loan schemes and the strengthening of health insurance programmes across the country.

He said the government has ensured that students can access loans to fund their education, while health insurance schemes are now functional, reducing the burden of medical expenses on citizens.

Uzodinma also linked the recent defection of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to the APC as evidence that Nigerians are satisfied with the performance of President Tinubu’s government.

“What Nigerians are saying is that the reform policy of President Tinubu is working,” Uzodinma stated.

“Today, nobody can say I’m not educated because I have no money to go to school because we have loans. Again, nobody will say, I couldn’t treat myself because I have no money for hospital bills because today, we have a health insurance scheme that is working,” he added.

However, since the removal of fuel subsidy in 2023, the cost of goods and services, including medicines, has increased, leading many Nigerians to express concern about their ability to afford healthcare. While the situation has reportedly eased in recent months, challenges around hospital access and the cost of medication remain for many citizens.

In the education sector, President Tinubu introduced the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) in 2024 after signing the Student Loans (Access to Higher Education) Act on April 3, 2024. The fund was officially launched on July 17, 2024.

As of August 11, 2025, a total of 720,732 students had successfully applied for NELFUND loans, while 731,140 students had registered on the platform, according to available figures.

The claims by APC governors have continued to generate debate, with Nigerians divided over whether access to education and healthcare has truly improved under the current administration.
