Afrobeats superstar Davido has shown his confidence in the Super Eagles ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), staking $25,000 (approximately ₦36 million) on Nigeria’s opening Group C match against Tanzania.
The singer shared a screenshot of his betting slip on his X page on Sunday, revealing that he placed a wager on both teams to score, with a potential payout of $96,564 (about ₦140 million).
This is not the first time Davido has publicly backed the Super Eagles with a significant bet. Before Nigeria’s last competitive fixture against Gabon in the 2026 FIFA World Cup play-offs, the award-winning artiste staked $10,000 (₦15 million), predicting a Nigerian win and both teams to score.
That bet carried a possible payout of $50,194.58 (₦75.2 million), although Nigeria eventually lost the match.
Despite the setback, Davido’s enthusiasm for supporting the national team appears undiminished as Nigeria begin their campaign for a fourth AFCON title.

The Super Eagles will take on the Taifa Stars of Tanzania at the Complex Sportif de Fes in Morocco on Tuesday, December 23, marking their first Group C outing of the tournament.
Nigeria, three-time African champions and runners-up at the last edition of the competition, head into the fixture as favourites. However, expectations remain measured following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a disappointment that has tempered optimism among fans.

On paper, the Super Eagles hold a clear advantage. Nigeria are currently ranked 38th in the world, while Tanzania sit 112th on the FIFA rankings. The Taifa Stars have also never recorded a competitive victory over Nigeria, further strengthening belief in the Eagles’ chances.
With fans and high-profile supporters like Davido rallying behind the team, attention will be firmly on Fez on Tuesday as Nigeria look to begin their AFCON 2025 campaign on a strong note.
