The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended 14 candidates to Bola Tinubu for appointment as judges of the Federal High Court.

The council disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday and signed by its Deputy Director of Information, Kemi Babalola-Ogedengbe. According to the statement, the decision was taken at the NJC’s 110th meeting, held on January 13 and 14, 2026.

The meeting was presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, who chairs the council.

“Council at its 110th meeting resolved to recommend to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu 14 successful candidates for appointment as judges of the Federal High Court,” the statement said.

The NJC explained that the recommendations were initially delayed due to the absence of required security reports on the nominees. The council said it opted to wait until all security clearances were received before forwarding the names to the President. Following the submission of the reports — with no adverse findings against any of the candidates — the council approved the recommendations.

“Having received the security reports with no adverse comments on any of the recommended candidates, the council, on January 22, 2026, forwarded their names to the President for appointment as judges of the Federal High Court,” the statement added.

The recommended candidates are Suleiman Hassan, Muhammad Saidu, Igboko Conchita, Onuegbu Angela, Galumje Edingah, Ibrahim Eneabo, Abubakar Usman, Salihu Yunusa, Ikpeme Bassey, Shehu Adamu, Mohammed Buba, Eigege-Binjin Judith, Usoro Uduak, and Nwoye Donatus.

The development comes shortly after the NJC recommended the Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeal, Enugu Division, Joseph Oyewole, for appointment as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, alongside 35 other candidates for various judicial positions nationwide.

The council said the recommendations followed a rigorous screening process, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening the judiciary through merit-based appointments.
