The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has reacted with surprise to a recent Eid-el-Fitr gathering hosted by Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, which brought together key opposition figures including Peter Obi, Seyi Makinde, and Seriake Dickson.

The meeting, held on Sunday at Kwankwaso’s residence along Miller Road in Kano, formed part of the Sallah celebrations. Photos from the event shared on Kwankwaso’s verified X account showed the politicians in a relaxed setting, with the NNPP leader describing the occasion as a moment of unity and joy, while wishing Nigerians peace, blessings, and prosperity.

However, the Kano APC, through its Publicity Secretary Auwal Mai-Nage, questioned both the timing and political significance of the gathering. He described the meeting as unexpected and disconnected from the political realities in the state, expressing concern over what he termed an unusual alignment among opposition figures.

Mai-Nage also criticised the turnout at the event, claiming it fell short of expectations for a gathering involving prominent national figures. He further alleged that emerging alliances were being driven by regional considerations, while questioning Kwankwaso’s political strategy. Despite these concerns, the APC maintained that the meeting does not pose a serious political threat within Kano.

Political observers, however, believe the gathering may signal early moves toward opposition coalition-building ahead of the 2027 general elections, especially following Kwankwaso’s earlier meeting with Makinde in Ibadan, which had already stirred speculation about possible alliances against the ruling party.
