Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is expected to formally declare his 2027 presidential ambition during a mega political rally scheduled to hold at Mapo Hall in Ibadan on Thursday.
- Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is expected to formally declare his 2027 presidential ambition during a mega political rally scheduled to hold at Mapo Hall in Ibadan on Thursday.

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, may formally declare his presidential ambition during a mega political rally scheduled for Thursday at the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan South-East Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The event, tagged “Unity Mega Rally Ibadan 2026,” is expected to serve as the official launch of Makinde’s anticipated 2027 presidential campaign, alongside the unveiling of a political alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in the state.
Sources within the PDP disclosed that the governor is expected to use the rally to officially announce his presidential bid on the platform of the APM.
A party source said, “Governor Seyi Makinde will declare his presidential bid on the platform of the APM.”
The rally is also expected to feature the unveiling of several aspirants contesting for state and national elective offices under the APM platform.
Among those expected to emerge are former Oyo State Commissioner for Finance, Bimbo Adekanmbi, as governorship candidate, while Stanley Olajide, Olufemi Ajadi, and Shina Peller are expected to be unveiled as senatorial candidates.
Candidates for the House of Representatives and State House of Assembly are also expected to be presented during the event.
The declaration rally is expected to be preceded by the signing of an alliance agreement between leaders of the APM and the Taminu Turaki faction of the PDP.
Preparations for the event have reportedly intensified, with political leaders and supporters from both parties expected to begin arriving in Ibadan ahead of the rally.
Another source familiar with the arrangement said the rally would attract political stakeholders, youth groups, traditional supporters, and allies from across the country who align with Makinde’s leadership style and political vision.
The source added that although the governor has not publicly confirmed his intention to contest the presidency, support groups and political associates have continued to intensify calls for him to join the 2027 race.

The development comes amid a wave of defections by political officeholders in Oyo State from the PDP to the APM, particularly among politicians seeking elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Makinde had earlier reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP following a January 2026 meeting with President Bola Tinubu, insisting that his support for bipartisan governance does not amount to defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
