- Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has appointed Kenneth Okonkwo as his spokesperson.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has appointed actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo as his spokesperson, just weeks after the ADC chieftain publicly criticised the party’s choice of vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
Announcing the appointment on his official X page, Okonkwo thanked Atiku for the confidence reposed in him, describing the move as a reflection of the former Vice President’s leadership style.
According to him, rather than taking offence at constructive criticism, Atiku chose dialogue and compromise to address concerns within the party.
Okonkwo revealed that discussions with Atiku and other ADC leaders focused on protecting the interests of the South-East despite challenges posed by the Electoral Act, 2026. He also expressed gratitude to key party stakeholders, including Dr. Kashim Imam, former ADC National Chairman Ralphs Nwosu, and Dr. Ekene Onwuka, for their roles in strengthening the party.
The appointment comes shortly after Okonkwo faulted the selection of the ADC’s vice-presidential candidate, arguing that choosing a South-South running mate would further sideline the South-East from Nigeria’s two highest political offices.
The ADC has since confirmed former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi as Atiku’s running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
