England booked their place in the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals after holding off a spirited Mexico comeback to claim a dramatic 3-2 victory in one of the tournament’s most entertaining matches.

The Three Lions looked to be cruising early on as Jude Bellingham produced a stunning first-half display, scoring twice in the space of two minutes to put England firmly in control.

Mexico, however, responded before halftime when Julián Quiñones pulled one back, setting the stage for a tense second half.

England’s task became even more difficult when defender Jarell Quansah was shown a straight red card following a reckless challenge, forcing Thomas Tuchel’s side to play the remainder of the match with ten men.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, England restored their two-goal cushion after Harry Kane calmly converted a penalty to make it 3-1.

The drama was far from over, though, as Kane later conceded a penalty at the other end, allowing Raúl Jiménez to score from the spot and reduce the deficit once again.

Backed by a passionate home crowd, Mexico launched relentless attacks in search of an equaliser, repeatedly sending crosses into England’s penalty area during a frantic finale.

However, England’s defence stood firm, with goalkeeper Jordan Pickford producing an assured performance by commanding his area and dealing confidently with Mexico’s aerial threat.

The victory sends England into the quarter-finals, where they will face Norway in Miami for a place in the final four.

Although Mexico pushed until the final whistle, England’s resilience, clinical finishing and determined defensive display ensured they emerged victorious in a memorable World Cup encounter.
