- Nnamdi Kanu’s wife has responded to reports that she filed for divorce, setting the record straight on the viral speculation.

Uchechi Okwu-Kanu, the wife of detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu, has denied reports alleging that she has filed for divorce from her husband.
In a statement shared on her verified X account on Friday, Okwu-Kanu described the reports as false and urged the public to disregard them.
“For the avoidance of doubt, I have not filed for divorce. The publication is entirely false and should be treated as misinformation,” she wrote.
She expressed disappointment over what she described as the continued spread of fabricated stories about her family without proper verification, warning that such reports undermine responsible journalism.
Okwu-Kanu also appealed to the public to rely only on information released by her or her authorised representatives, while thanking those who contacted her to verify the claims before sharing them.
Nnamdi Kanu and Uchechi Okwu-Kanu got married in 2009.
The IPOB leader is currently serving a life sentence at the Sokoto Custodial Centre after being convicted on terrorism-related charges by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja in November 2025.
Kanu was found guilty on all seven counts brought against him and received life imprisonment on five counts, 20 years on one count, and five years on another, with all sentences ordered to run concurrently.
He has since appealed the conviction, filing a notice of appeal before the Court of Appeal on February 4, 2026, seeking to overturn the judgment.
