- Peter Obi has challenged former ally Kenneth Okonkwo to publicly release any damaging information he claims to have, vowing to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race if the allegations prove him unfit for office.

Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi has declared that he will withdraw from the 2027 presidential election if former ally Kenneth Okonkwo presents credible evidence proving he is unfit to serve.
Obi made the statement during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, where he also explained why he filed a defamation suit against Okonkwo.
According to the former Anambra State governor, the lawsuit is not aimed at silencing Okonkwo but at compelling him to publicly disclose the alleged damaging information he has repeatedly claimed to possess.
“I want Kenneth Okonkwo to bring out all the ‘hidden things’ that he has on me. If I am not qualified after his revelation, then I’ll stop running for the election,” Obi said.
Obi noted that Okonkwo, who previously served as his spokesperson and is now the spokesman for African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has repeatedly claimed to have sensitive information about him.
Responding to suggestions that the legal action was an attempt to suppress free speech, Obi insisted the suit was filed solely to ensure the claims are tested publicly.
“Kenneth Okonkwo said, as my spokesperson, he had so many hidden things that if he’s provoked or sued, he will bring them out. And that’s the only thing I’m suing him for—to bring those things out,” he added.
Obi maintained that Nigerians deserve to know the true character and background of anyone seeking public office before casting their votes, saying transparency is essential for credible leadership.
