‘What Are You Hiding?’ Oshiomhole Grills NNPC Over ‘Secret’ Claims (Video)

- Senator Adams Oshiomhole challenged an NNPC official during a Senate probe after the official suggested there were matters that could not be publicly disclosed.

Former Edo State governor and Senator Adams Oshiomhole has challenged an official during the Senate’s ongoing probe into the financial records of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited after comments suggesting there were “secrets” that could not be disclosed.
The heated exchange occurred during a hearing into NNPC’s audited financial statements when an auditor indicated that some issues could only be discussed with the auditor’s “principal.”
Oshiomhole immediately objected, insisting that NNPC, as a state-owned company, is accountable to Nigerians and cannot keep secrets from its owners.
‘You are not entitled to keep secrets’
Reacting to the official’s remarks, Oshiomhole said the statement raised serious concerns.
“You said something which indicates a very serious problem. You said there are secrets between you and your principal that you can’t explain. You are not entitled to keep secrets from your owners,” he said.
He stressed that unlike privately owned companies, NNPC belongs to the Nigerian people and must remain fully accountable.
“NNPC is 100% owned by the Nigerian masses. So it’s not like a typical company like Dangote, who can say this is my business. It is our business.”
Lawmakers demand accountability
The senator said members of the National Assembly have a constitutional responsibility to ensure public institutions account for how they manage national assets.
“We have a mandate from the electorate to demand details of everything entrusted to NNPC to manage,” he stated.
Oshiomhole also questioned what the official meant by “secrets,” saying the comment was troubling.
“What are those secrets that you cannot disclose? That statement is very pregnant.”
Senate continues NNPC financial probe
The exchange took place as the Senate continues its investigation into NNPC’s audited financial statements, focusing on outstanding liabilities, receivables and other financial records.
Lawmakers say the probe is aimed at strengthening transparency and accountability in the management of Nigeria’s state-owned oil company.
