Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has reportedly been approached to join an investor consortium exploring the purchase of a minority stake in Premier League giants Liverpool FC.

According to reports by Sky News, the consortium, led by businessman Amit Bhatia, is in discussions with Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) over a deal that could value the club at more than $6 billion.

The investment group is said to be targeting up to a 30 percent stake in the Merseyside club, a move that would represent one of the biggest investments in English football.

Although Bezos has been approached about participating in the consortium, sources familiar with the discussions say it remains unclear whether the billionaire will ultimately join the deal.

In preparation for the proposed investment, reports indicate that Bhatia recently sold his long-held stake in Championship club Queens Park Rangers to avoid multi-club ownership conflicts and comply with football regulations.

Bezos, whose estimated net worth is around $257 billion, has previously shown interest in sports ownership, including potential bids for NFL franchises such as the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders, but has yet to complete a major acquisition.

Fenway Sports Group has owned Liverpool since 2010 and has been exploring outside investment since 2022 as the club’s global valuation continues to rise.

Football finance experts believe the proposed transaction has a strong chance of progressing, with both parties expected to benefit from the investment.

For Bhatia and his financial backers, including the billionaire Mittal family, the deal would provide ownership in one of the world’s most valuable football clubs.

Even if Bezos decides not to participate, reports suggest the consortium remains financially capable of completing the investment without him.

If completed, the deal is expected to strengthen Liverpool’s long-term financial position. Industry analysts believe the new capital would likely be used to reduce stadium-related debt and support infrastructure projects, freeing up future revenue for player recruitment and wage spending.

Analysts also note that Bezos’ involvement, if it materialises, could significantly boost Liverpool’s global commercial operations through Amazon’s expertise in retail, logistics, digital media and streaming.
