‘Politics Is Not for the Weak’ — PDP Speaks on Defections

• Bayelsa PDP Chairman George Turnah says the party is fully prepared for the 2028 governorship election, insisting it has the structure, experience and grassroots support to secure victory despite recent political realignments.

The Bayelsa State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), George Turnah, has declared that the party is fully prepared for the 2028 governorship election, insisting it will not be intimidated by recent political realignments in the state.

Turnah made the declaration on Sunday during the reception of former All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Gabriel Claudius, popularly known as the “One Million Man,” and his supporters into the PDP in Elebele Community, Ogbia Local Government Area.

He described Claudius’ return as a major boost to the party’s grassroots mobilisation and urged members to intensify preparations ahead of the next governorship election.

According to him, electoral victory requires commitment, organisation and sustained grassroots engagement rather than mere popularity.

“Politics is not for the weak. It is not enough to say you are popular or that you have supporters. You must continue to work until INEC declares your candidate the winner,” Turnah said.

The PDP chairman dismissed claims that recent political developments would weaken the party, maintaining that it remains strong and strategically positioned to retain power in the state.

He said the PDP had already identified key constituencies and would focus its efforts on securing victory where it matters most.

“We have the structure, the people and the capacity to win. Victory depends on our preparation,” he added.

Turnah also urged party members to remain united and continue grassroots mobilisation, stressing that the PDP possesses the experience and political machinery needed to emerge victorious in the 2028 governorship election.
