Labaran Maku, chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has admitted that the impact by the ‘Obidient’ movement and the labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi was massively felt in the concluded 2023 presidential election.

VerseNews Nigeria reports that Maku in an interview session with ‘Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily’ said they took the former Anambra State Governor and his supports for granted and described them as ‘a joke.’

Maku who is also former Information and National Orientation Minister said to their surprise Obi without structure has done so much that they couldn’t imagine.

“What happened in the presidential election as you could see was that there was this wave of young people, the ‘Obidients’ that we all took for granted and we were thinking Peter Obi was a joke. Where would he go?”

“So, both PDP and the APC, we were thinking ‘This man does not have structure. He will not be able to do so much’,” the PDP chieftain said.

He noted that the youths for the first time participated massively in the general elections adding that they took advantage of the social media platforms to disclose every details of the election.

“But the young people seized the initiative from the politicians. And for the first time – what we saw in Nasarawa, Edo, several other places, and in Delta State where the PDP vice presidential candidate comes from – we saw that young people were serious about what they were doing and they took advantage of social media to project a programme which has shaken the nation.”

Maku however accepted that PDP lost the presidential election to LP but insisted that ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) did not win the governorship poll.

He said the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is questionable and does not reflect the people’s will.
