  • The ADC–NCP coalition has vowed to unseat President Tinubu in 2027, citing economic hardship, rising insecurity, and failed governance under the APC.

In a major political development ahead of the 2027 general elections, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the National Conscience Party (NCP) have formed a unified electoral alliance aimed at challenging President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The coalition was unveiled on Monday during a joint press briefing in Lagos, where NCP Lagos Chairman, Chief Fatai Ibu-Owo, stood alongside ADC National Secretary and former Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola, as well as other party leaders. The opposition bloc warned that Nigeria is “sliding into deeper crisis” under the APC-led government.

According to the alliance, Nigerians are facing unprecedented hardship driven by economic decline, soaring inflation and worsening poverty. They blamed the removal of fuel subsidy for skyrocketing pump prices, insisting that millions of citizens have been left struggling for daily survival.

Describing the current reality as “a bleeding heart of a nation,” Ibu-Owo said the government has failed to provide relief or stability, stressing that urgent intervention is needed to save the country.

The coalition also condemned what it termed a total breakdown of security nationwide. They cited the rise in kidnapping, rural banditry, and widespread attacks, accusing the APC government of failing to protect lives and property.

Beyond security and the economy, the ADC–NCP alliance accused the ruling party of weakening democratic institutions, stifling public criticism, and silencing opposition voices. They called for massive citizen mobilisation, community organising, and support for independent media as part of a new political awakening.

Ibu-Owo said the alliance is building a formidable structure to “usher in a national renewal” in 2027. He urged Nigerians to prepare for what he described as a “democratic handover,” declaring: “Tinubu and his allies should know — their time is coming.”

The NCP, founded in 1994 by human rights icon Chief Gani Fawehinmi, and the ADC, founded in 2005, noted that their partnership is rooted in shared ideological values rather than political convenience.

Monday’s announcement follows Aregbesola’s previous statement in July, where he expressed confidence that a united ADC could dislodge the APC in 2027.
