  • The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has inaugurated its new national headquarters in Abuja, with party leaders and key opposition figures rallying around a unified platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially unveiled its new national headquarters located in Wuse 2, Abuja, marking a major step in the party’s restructuring and preparations for the 2027 general election.

Former Senate President and National Chairman of the ADC, David Mark, led the inauguration ceremony, accompanied by prominent political figures including former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, former SGF Babachir Lawal, and Senator Dino Melaye.

In his address, Mark charged party members to remain focused and committed as the opposition coalition solidifies its platform ahead of 2027.

The multi-party opposition bloc had formally adopted the ADC as its political vehicle on July 2, 2025, declaring its mission to “rescue the country from collapse and rebuild its democracy.”

Mark reiterated this vision during the ceremony, saying:
“Let it be known that this coalition goes beyond gaining political power. It is a concerted effort to rebuild the crumbling pillars of Nigeria’s democracy. The mission is clear: Rescue Nigeria. Rebuild Nigeria. Return power to the people.”

He accused the APC-led Federal Government of hijacking democratic institutions and pushing Nigeria toward what he described as a “creeping descent into total civilian dictatorship.”

According to him, the current administration is “consumed with politicking” and has abandoned governance, while also allegedly destabilising major opposition parties to ensure a one-party state in 2027.

Key members of the coalition include former presidential candidates Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, though both were notably absent from the inauguration.

Also part of the movement are former Youth Minister Solomon Dalung, publisher Dele Momodu, Senator Gabriel Suswam, Senator Ireti Kingibe, former Deputy Speaker Emeka Ihedioha, and former Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (retd.).

During the event, former ADC national chairman Ralph Nwosu formally handed over leadership, presenting membership cards to David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola as interim national chairman and national secretary, respectively.
