Arsenal F.C. have reached their first UEFA Champions League final in 20 years after defeating Atlético Madrid 2-1 on aggregate in their semi-final clash.
A first-half strike from Bukayo Saka proved decisive in the second leg as the Gunners secured victory after last week’s 1-1 draw in Madrid.
The second half saw Atletico push hard for an equaliser, but their appeals for a penalty following a challenge on Antoine Griezmann were waved away. Arsenal were also handed a chance to extend their lead, but Viktor Gyökeres missed a clear opportunity to put the tie beyond doubt.
The result sends Arsenal into their first Champions League final since 2006, where they will face either Bayern Munich or Paris Saint-Germain F.C. in Budapest on Saturday, May 30.
Speaking after the match, match-winner Saka paid tribute to Arsenal supporters for inspiring the team to victory.

“It’s so beautiful, so what it means to the fans… I’ve never seen anything like it,” he told Amazon Prime.

The winger, who has become a key figure under manager Mikel Arteta since his appointment in 2019, described the goal as one of the most significant of his career.
“It’s definitely up there. There’s no way you’re going to come to this position and not have pressure. We have to block it out and focus on getting the job done. It’s a beautiful story and I hope it ends well,” Saka added.
Arsenal will now turn their focus to Budapest as they chase European glory and look to cap off their remarkable campaign with their first-ever Champions League title.
