Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have killed an Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) cameraman and uncovered evidence linking foreign terrorist operatives to the group’s activities following a failed attack in Borno State.

The military said the operation took place on Saturday after ISWAP fighters attempted to infiltrate Cross Kauwa in Kukawa Local Government Area under the cover of darkness to loot cholera medical supplies.

According to the Acting Military Information Officer of Joint Task Force North East, Capt. Muhammed Goni, alert troops detected the movement early and responded with overwhelming firepower, forcing the terrorists to retreat after suffering heavy casualties.

During the operation, troops neutralised an ISWAP cameraman and recovered a Sony camcorder containing operational footage and propaganda materials.

Preliminary forensic analysis of the recordings revealed that the failed operation was coordinated by four senior ISWAP commanders alongside three foreign terrorist facilitators, including a Palestinian Arab identified as Abu Ishaq, believed to be the group’s chief trainer, and a Moroccan Arab identified as Abu Thaiba, who reportedly serves as a medical doctor within the terrorist network.

The military said the discovery further confirms intelligence reports that ISWAP continues to receive external support, specialist expertise and transnational terrorist backing.

Troops also recovered terrorist uniforms, PKT ammunition, 7.62mm Special rounds and other combat items during exploitation operations.

Satellite imagery and credible human intelligence later confirmed that the fleeing terrorists evacuated the bodies of several fighters killed during the encounter, while many others sustained gunshot wounds.

Two Nigerian soldiers were injured during the firefight and have since been evacuated for advanced medical treatment. The military said both personnel are in stable condition.

Operation Hadin Kai said the latest operation represents another major setback for ISWAP and reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling terrorist networks and restoring lasting peace across the North-East.
