- Spain defeated France 2-0 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-final to book their place in the final, where they will face either England or Argentina in pursuit of a second world title.

Spain have secured a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final after defeating France 2-0 in Tuesday’s semi-final clash.
La Roja produced another impressive performance to eliminate their European rivals from a major international tournament, having also knocked France out of the UEFA Euro 2024 semi-finals and the UEFA Nations League.
Spain opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when Mikel Oyarzabal calmly converted a penalty after teenage star Lamine Yamal was brought down inside the box by France defender Lucas Digne.
The breakthrough came after Yamal burst into the penalty area to meet a cross from Marc Cucurella before being fouled while attempting to control the ball.
France’s problems deepened before halftime when central defender William Saliba was forced off with an injury and replaced by Maxence Lacroix.
Spain capitalised on the defensive disruption after the break, doubling their advantage through Pedro Porro. The right-back combined brilliantly with Dani Olmo before finishing past goalkeeper Mike Maignan after the referee allowed play to continue following a foul on Olmo.
The victory sends Spain into their first FIFA World Cup final since lifting the trophy in South Africa in 2010.
They will now face the winner of Wednesday’s semi-final between England and Argentina, while France will play in the third-place playoff against the loser of that encounter.
Spain will be aiming to win a second FIFA World Cup title and cap off another remarkable international campaign.
