Canadian rapper Drake is celebrating a massive payday after winning more than $1 million following Canada’s dramatic 1-0 victory over South Africa in the FIFA World Cup Round of 32.

The Toronto-born superstar had placed a staggering $770,000 wager on Canada to beat South Africa, with the bet carrying a potential payout of $1,001,000. Canada’s victory ultimately earned Drake a profit of approximately $231,000.

Ahead of the game, Drake revealed on his Instagram page that the wager was inspired by a message from South African DJ Black Coffee.

“@realblackcoffee was chirping in the DM I had to raise the STAKES,” he wrote while sharing a screenshot of the bet slip.

South Africa’s defeat brought an end to the country’s best-ever FIFA World Cup campaign. Bafana Bafana had reached the knockout stage for the first time in history after finishing second in Group A, qualifying ahead of Nigeria for the expanded 2026 tournament.

The Hugo Broos-led side impressed during the group stage, including a crucial 1-0 win over South Korea that secured their place in the Round of 32.

However, their fairytale run ended heartbreakingly at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles when midfielder Stephen Eustáquio fired home a stunning stoppage-time winner to hand Canada a 1-0 victory and a place in the Round of 16.

The win also marked a historic achievement for the co-hosts, as Canada reached the World Cup Round of 16 for the first time in the country’s history.
